Week 9 Recap

Matchweek 9 had huge victories for three sides that will be moving on to the playoffs while it set back Samarra and Anatolia. Here are the recaps:

Anatolia FC     1   |   3     Jerusalem FC

In a showdown for first place, Jerusalem and Anatolia both struck early. Anatolia scored on their first shot when Zain Khilji met Kamil Lotia with a sleak through-ball which Kamil calmly deposited for the early lead. Jerusalem responded right back with Saqib Dadabhoy guiding an Omar Sheikh corner into the back of the net to tie the match. In the 20th minute, Saqib set up Shaheen Limbada who blasted it home for a 2-1 lead. At the half, both squads made some tactical changes. Both goalkeepers made some huge saves early in the second half to keep the game close. With three minutes to play, Mohammad Variava headed a goalkick forward to Omar Sheikh who put the match away with the insurance goal. With the victory, Jerusalem essentially lock up first place in the standings regardless of next weeks results. Anatolia drop down to third place with a crucial matchup against Hejaz in the final week.

Samarra FC     2   |   4     Andalusia FC

In a huge fixture for both sides, Samarra was looking to keep their playoff hopes alive while Andalusia were looking to punch their ticket to the post-season. Samarra struck early with Numair Bari proving a clinical finish to give his side the lead. Both teams traded chances but neither team could beat the goalkeeper to change the scoreline. With a 1-0 lead at halftime, Samarra were looking for an insurance goal and see out the match but Andalusia had other ideas. To open the second half, Imad Siraj got back on the scoresheet on a feed by Hassan Chaudhary. Samarra would strike back with Danish Khan giving Samarra the 2-1 lead. That was when man of the match took it upon himself to score two critical goals to put Samrara on top for good. Samarra pressured to get an equalizer but got caught on the counter for Farhan Karamat to score the insurance goal. With the victory, Andalusia lock up a playoff spot for the first time but that comes at the expense of Samarra who would need a miracle next week to get in on goal differential.
