Second Leg: Semi-final Recap

The second half of the semi-finals failed to provide the drama we experienced last week with two one side affairs. Congratulations to Anatolia and Andalusia for a fantastic season with plenty of accomplishments this year. Here's how we got down to the final two.

Anatolia FC   1   |   6   Jerusalem FC (Jerusalem advance 7-2 on aggregate)

After a tight draw last week, Anatolia sorely missed their Captain and leading goalscorer while Jerusalem got a surprise late addition for their match. Omar Sheikh caught a flight to return from his west coast assignment to join his team in time for the game. He made an impact immediate as he scored the opening goal. Raza Ali would have his best match of the season as he score two brilliant goals and got a helper as well. Nihad Shihab did his best to carry the scoring load for his squad and got an early goal to keep his team in the match but was held at bay after that. With the match falling out of reach, Jerusalem helped set up their former keeper Zahid Merchant with two late goals to put an exclamation on the match. Anatolia fought hard but were unable to generate enough offense to keep up. Jerusalem advance to the finals once again but health of their squad will be the talk all week.

Andalusia FC   0   |   2   Hejaz FC (Hejaz advance 6-1 on aggregate)

The second match required Andalusia to come up with a three goal victory to force a shoot-out after their lapse in the first leg. That task got even more difficult when Fawad Akram scored a goal early in the first half to give them a four goal advantage. Andalusia were in all out blitz mode and struggled to generate quality scoring chances through out the match. Early on Shaharyar Khan got a few chances that could have changed the complexion of the game but failed to capitalize. Later in the first half, Muhammad Shah scored to end any chance of a comeback. Andalusia reached the playoffs for the first time and had a fantastic season that saw them lead the tables for much of the season. The solid core should give them the ability to get back to the semis in future years. Hejaz once again find themselves in the finals against a familiar opponent.

All that is left now is the finale which kicks off at 830 next Sunday.
